After a long winter with a lot of snow and a very wet spring with our driveway under water for about 5 weeks, we have finally have some babies on the ground. The first was a nice black and white stud colt out of Ali (Pepsi Summer Ali) and Sire (Straight King Skipper). Spanky was born on April 12th around 1pm.

The 3rd foal born was that night on April 13. Peso, a nice filly out of the mare (Penny) and sire (Straight King Skipper).

The 3rd foal born so fare was on April 20. Teddy is a black and white colt out of Medora (Pepsi Spuds Medora) and sire (Straight King Skipper)

The 4th foal was born on early April 30. Expresso is Sorrel stud colt out of Dew(Pepsi Delta Dew) and sire (Straight King Skipper)

The 5th foal was born on May 2nd. Dusty is a stud colt out of Dawn and sire (Straight King Skipper)

The 6th foal to be born was on May 5th. Montana is a stud colt out of Lakota (Pepsi Lakota Summer) and sire (Straight King Skipper).

The 7th foal was born on May 11. Misty is a filly out of Fancy (Pepsi Fancy Jade) and sire (Straight King Skipper).

New Stallion Prospect

Flint (Hesa Colord Cat) is sired by NCHA Champion, Cats Prints, son of High Brow Cat PE $45,000,000, out of a dam of multiple world champion producer Skips Jacket . Skips Jacket is the dam of Tuxie Skip and many more. This makes Flint a half brother to Tuxie Skip. This will be a supper cross for Pepsi San Man and Strait King Skipper’s daughters.

The Wait is Over

After the long wait we finally have new additions to the ranch. The first baby came on Monday April 26, 2010. It was a nice looking colt out of Ali (Pepsi Summer Ali) and the stallion was Skipper (Strait King Skipper). The next was a nice filly born on Wednesday April 28, 2010. The filly is out of the mare Dew and the stallion was Skipper (Strait King Skipper). The last baby of the week was a very nice looking filly born on Saturday May 1, 2010. She was out of the mare Jenny (Spuds Jennifer) and the stallion was Skipper (Strait King Skipper).

A Christmas to Remember

The Christmas of 2009 will be remembered for a long time. Before Christmas we were able to meet a new friend from Colorado. Like us, he is looking into the paint horse showing and how to make a better paint world. We were able to sit down and share ideas on how we feel the paint world will become and how to help it grow. The visit was cut short because of the incoming snow storm. At the time we did not know how big the storm was going to be. Our new Colorado friend was not going home alone. Going on the trip with him was Miss K, Whinnie, Cutter , and Cheerio. Even though they had pickup troubles in SD and the start of a big snow storm, they all were able to make it back to their family for Christmas.

With the Big winter storm coming, most of the family had to slip away from work early and make the trip home before the storm got too bad. The snow started to fall Christmas Eve, but that didn’t stop us from making it to Enderlin for church and to have a Christmas Eve dinner. This was the first Christmas for Danica, Amber and Jeremy’s baby girl. We all had fun with her and loved seeing here opening her first Christmas presents. Most of the family then headed to the farm to spend the night .

Christmas morning, we all were surprised when we looked out the window. It was truly a white Christmas. We were all saddened to find out that a trip to grandmas for Santa gifts and breakfast had to be called off. The 3 mile trip would be too far for the storm that we were having. We still had a good time with the family that was able to make the trip. Once again we were given the treat of watching Danica open gifts and trying to eat the gift wraping. We were all treated to a nice Christmas dinner and lots of card games.

The next day was Mom’s 50th birthday. We didn’t get to throw her a big party because of being snowed in. We did have some ice cream cake and lots of leftovers. Dad and I did not get to spend the day with mom and the family. It was the start of what it seemed like a never ending digging out of snow. Over the two days we had around 20 inches of snow and it blew around. There were drifts 4 feet high in places. It was not until the next day that we had it mostly cleared off the roads so family could start going home. The rest of Christmas break was spent trying to stay warm. We went through 2 weeks of never getting over O degrees and lows well into the -30s most nights. The cold made it hard to dig out the farm and feed horses. Luckily we planned ahead and put extra hay out so we did not have to push too hard to get them enough.

The Christmas of 2009 will be one to remember for us. Meeting a new friend, Christmas with the family, Danica’s first Christmas, the big snow storm, and the very cold day and nights will make it hard to forget this Christmas break. Because of being snowed in, we were able to spend more time with family. Looking back over this break, and even if I could change anything,I would not have it any other way. Well, maybe loose the extreme cold.

The trouble with weather

At the start of the summer months we were so far behind at the farm. Over the winter we had came up with some plans that we would like to get done over the warm months. Most of the plans were to finish things we had started the last summer and fall. Then the spring started with a big flood with water all around the farm. With all this water we had a late start to the year. With all the mud it was hard to work around the farm and get into the field. We started the summer months a month behind. After things dried off we were able to get hay cut and the fields planted. We just got most of the hay home and were starting to get ready for to harvest crops. Just then we were hit with weeks of little rain about every day everything was getting wet again and muddy. Then in mid October we got hit with snow with over 6 inches of the white stuff. Like dad said we started the year a month behind and now at this point we are a month and a half behind. The first week of November we finally had dry warm weather. We got on it and got the crops done as soon as we could. We are now starting to clean up the mess that we have made to get everything we could get done this year and now getting ready for winter.

After the first ride on the sled 2 days after we got the 6 inches of snow.

It was a nice black and white filly out of the mare Pepsi Spuds Medora. The next two came late Friday night may 1^st and early Saturday may 2^nd. Friday night brought another filly out of Whinnie. The last colt born on Saturday was also a filly out of Pepsi Summer Ali. Straight King Skipper was the sire of all three fillies.

Spring is finally here in North Dakota!

We are grateful for the warm temperatures. But, this year is proving to have many challenges.

Fall: Extremely wet conditions brought a long grass season but impossible for many farmers to harvest crops

Winter: Unusual amounts of snow had us raising the height of the fences. Record breaking cold temperatures for many weeks made for extra thick hair growth and we burned a lot of fuel.

Spring: March brought four snowstorms, with the last one dumping more than 20 inches of wet snow. First time ever the entire state experienced flooding. Water has completely surrounded our ranch. Pasture, alfalfa, driveway are still under water for the 2^nd time. But we are anxiously awaiting the birth of 8 foals out of Pepsi and Skipper.

Home to Pepsi San Man, the Rail Line Ranch is located among the plains in Southeast North Dakota. It is our goal to breed, raise, and condition our horses for further development. We are continuing a forty year tradition of foundation paint horse breeding, plus introducing today's top bloodlines.
